On Tuesday afternoon, a truck hauling a trailer sparked several fires in Leake County.

The incidents occurred along Hwy 16 E, stretching from Edinburg to Carthage, where four separate grass fires were reported.

Two fires were started just outside Edinburg, approximately half a mile west of Dollar General, while the other two blazes occurred between Lobutcha bridge and the Carthage city limits.

Mississippi Forestry Commission assisted firefighters in the Lobutcha area to contain the flames.

Witnesses say a Ford F-150 towing a trailer with either flat tires or a dragging chain was seen emitting sparks and is believed to be the cause of the fires.

Local law enforcement was unable to locate the vehicle and inform the driver.
