Two Attala County natives playing in community college World Series

Two Attala County athletes are playing in the community college baseball World Series.

Cyrus Rone, a 2022 graduate of Ethel High School, and Rhett Atkinson, a 2023 graduate of Leake Academy, are currently playing in the NJCAA DII World Series in Enid, OK with the East Central Community College Warriors.

After falling to Jones College in the Region 23 Tournament, the Warriors received an at-large bid as the tournament’s number 3 seed.

Despite losing its opening round game, the Warriors have advanced to the tournament semifinals. The Warriors face off next against Brunswick Community College (North Carolina) today (Thursday, May 30) at 3:00 pm.

In 53 games played this season for the Warriors, the former Ethel Tiger Rone has a .295 batting average, four homeruns, and 27 RBI.

Atkinson has played in 16 games this season for the Warriors. In those games, the former Leake Academy Rebel has a .333 batting average, has pitched 7 innings, striking out five batters.
