UPDATE – January 29: The Region 2-3A District Basketball Tournament has been canceled due to the recent ice storm and ongoing travel issues across the area.
District officials say some teams were unable to safely travel to the tournament site in Madden, leading schools to decide not to hold the event this year.
With the tournament canceled, the top four teams from the regular season will advance to the MAIS 3A North State Tournament based on their season records.
North State play is scheduled for next week at Oak Hill Academy in West Point.
The decision was made with player and team safety in mind as winter weather continues to impact parts of the district.
With both Leake Academy Girls and Boys finishing first place in the regular season, both teams will advance to the North State tournament, with their seedings to be determined.
Additional details regarding game times and matchups for the North State Tournament are expected to be released soon.
Update – January 27: Winter weather has forced a schedule change for the Region 2-3A District Basketball Tournament in Madden, pushing the entire tournament back two days.
The Leake Academy boys and girls basketball teams will still open postseason play this week, but on a revised schedule.
Both teams earned first-round byes after finishing first in the regular-season standings and will advance directly to the semifinal round.
Under the updated schedule, quarterfinal games will now be played Thursday, followed by semifinals on Friday and championship games on Saturday.
The Leake Academy girls team will play the winner of Oak Hill vs. Winston Academy in the semifinals on Friday evening. The boys team will also take the floor Friday, facing the winner of Winona Christian vs. Washington School.
Finals for both the boys and girls brackets are now scheduled for Saturday.
January 23: The Leake Academy boys and girls basketball teams will begin postseason play next week.
The teams will both compete in the Region 2-3A District Tournament, which is being played in Madden this year.
Both teams earned first round byes due to finishing in first place in the the regular season.
The girls team will play the winner of Oak Hill vs Winston Academy Thursday, Jan. 29 at 6:30.
The boys team will face the winner of Winona Christian vs Washington School Thursday, Jan. 29 at 7:45.
