Mississippi drivers can expect to see more Highway Patrol presence this Memorial Day weekend beginning bright and early Friday morning through midnight Monday night.

MHP Troop D’s Public Affairs Officer, Bobby Land says they’ll be looking for speeding or impaired drivers. “We want drivers to slow down, wear their seatbelts, stay alert and make safety their top priority this holiday weekend,” Land said.

Troopers will conduct additional patrols across the state, focusing on heavily traveled routes and areas with a history of crashes.

“We’ll be watching for speeding, distracted driving and impaired driving violations. Put the phone away, buckle up and allow yourself extra travel time.”

“If you plan to drink, make arrangements for a sober ride before you head out. Our goal is for everyone to make it home safely to their families.”

The Memorial Day travel period is one of the busiest times of the year, and MHP is urging motorists to take extra precautions behind the wheel.
