Be careful what you wish for.  With a serious drought in Mississippi this spring,  most of us have been hoping for some rain.   We’re getting it this week and we’ll be wetter than we’ve been in a long time.  Nicholas Fenner at the National Weather Service in Jackson says, with daily chances of rain, the state will average 2 to 5 inches through the middle of next week– and depending on how it falls, there could be a risk of flooding…

“The biggest concern this time of year is when you get a few rounds in the same day or after you’ve already saturated the ground and another round of heavy storms comes through the next day…”

Fenner says some of the areas with the least amount of rainfall this spring should get a real soaking this week…

“These areas that we’re watching for potentially the heaviest rain over the next few days are the ones that need it the most…”

Some of the highest accumulations are currently forecast from southwest Mississippi up into the central part of the state.
