Update: Tornado in Clinton but Not in Leake

The Clinton area and Leake County were both under tornado warnings Monday night.  And while the National Weather Service has confirmed an EF-1 tornado in Clinton, it’s found no evidence of a touchdown in Leake.  It appears that the tree damage in the county was caused by straight-line winds with the storm that went through Clinton weakening as it tracked to the northeast.   NWS says the Clinton tornado was on the ground for eight and a half miles with winds reaching 100 miles an hour– but there was only minor roof damage reported along with some trees blown down.
