LOUISVILLE, Miss.–A flatbed truck that belongs to the Louisville Fire Dept. was stolen Friday, said the Winston County Sheriff’s Dept. in a Facebook post.
Law enforcement officers around central Mississippi were also notified Friday evening about 7:30 of the theft and asked to be on the lookout.
It was just before 5 p.m. Friday that the 2004 Ford F-450 flatbed truck was stolen from behind the fire station.
Whomever stole the truck took advantage of a situation where fire department personnel had just returned from an errand and left the truck parked behind the station when a 911 call about a grass fire came in. The keys were in the truck.
“This vehicle is not a personal truck — it is used to haul lifesaving equipment, pull our command trailer, and transport critical resources to emergency scenes,” read the post.
“It takes a special kind of individual to steal equipment intended to protect and serve others — but it takes a strong community to stand together and help bring it home.”
Anyone who sees the truck is asked to call one of the following numbers:
