WALNUT GROVE, Miss.–More than 400 people had signed a petition this weekend, lending their names to oppose the planned merger of Leake Central and Leake County high schools.
The announcement about the merger was made by the school district earlier this year.
Saturday a group of alums and parents met in Walnut Grove to talk about reasons they oppose the merger.
“We feel like the voices of the people haven’t been heard and the concerns of the people in this community has not been addressed,” said Richet Parhm, talking to WLBT-TV.
“You have seniors that are planning on playing their senior year, whether academically or in academic programs, or athletically,” she told the TV station. “They have planned out and they’re excited about their senior year. Now you put a damper on that.”
