As expected, a heat advisory has been posted for Sunday for the local area with an extreme heat warning to the northwest. Locally, the heat index is forecast to exceed 105 degrees while in the heat warning area, it could go above 110. More advisories and warnings are likely next week, with the National Weather Service calling for high temperatures in the upper 90s Monday and Tuesday with a heat index Monday near 106 in Kosciusko, 107 in Carthage and Philadelphia and 109 in Durant. On Tuesday, the heat index could be close to 110 areawide.
