A serious two-vehicle crash blocked traffic on Hwy 16 E at Midway Road in the Sunrise community around 9:30 p.m. Thursday evening. Leake County Deputies, the Edinburg Fire Department, EMS, and MS Hwy Patrol were dispatched to the scene.
According to reports, the roadway was completely blocked by the wreckage. One vehicle was overturned in the roadway with occupants still inside when first responders arrived. Multiple people were transported to the hospital by ambulance. The extent of their injuries is unknown.
Both vehicles sustained significant damage and were towed from the scene.
