MS Flu Cases Reach Season High

SHARE NOW

Mississippi’s flu rate is now at its highest level of the season, jumping above the previous peak that we saw around Christmas.  Doctors who file reports with the Health Department say they saw almost 16,000 patients during the week ending February 7th with more than 800 having flu-like symptoms.  That’s a flu rate of 5.3 cent.   While the public health district which includes Leake and Neshoba counties saw fewer cases, the flu rate in the district which includes Attala, Holmes, Carroll and Montgomery counties and much of the Delta more than doubled in a week’s time, now just under 12 per cent.

The CDC, for the first time this season, classifies flu activity in Mississippi as “very high”.  In fact, only two states, Louisiana and Oregon, have a higher flu rate.
