The Leake County School District has added six new battery-electric school buses to its fleet, made possible through the EPA Clean School Bus Rebate Program.
District officials say the investment marks a major step forward in improving air quality, reducing operational costs, and enhancing transportation safety for students across the county.
District bus drivers, technicians, administrative personnel, and emergency responders have participated in comprehensive training sessions. These steps were taken to ensure safety, readiness, and long-term success.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Thursday, February 26, at the district’s bus terminal to celebrate the addition. Students from the Leake County and Leake Central High School bands performed together during the event. School board members, city and county officials, and community members were also in attendance to mark the occasion.
