The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touchdown Friday morning in an area near Highway 43 close to the Leake-Madison county line. NWS reported a “tornado debris signature” on its radar as the storm passed over Matlock Road near the Revive community. A TDS is an indication that a tornado has lifted debris into the air so that it shows up on radar. Leake and Madison counties were under a tornado warning at the time.
A storm survey has confirmed the touchdown and found that the EF-0 tornado with winds estimated at 85 mph was on the ground for 4.6 miles, dissipating at Red Dog Road in western Leake County. The storm uprooted a handful of trees and knocked down a number of limbs, one of which fell on a power line.
