CARTHAGE, Miss.–A man was shot in the head at the Galilee Homecoming event on Harmony Community Rd. Saturday night.

The shooting happened after Leake County deputies were called to the event to take a report about someone spinning out and throwing rocks, damaging vehicles. When the deputy who initially responded was leaving the scene, he was called back because someone was making threats.

When that deputy was on his way back a call about shots fired came in. That was at 9:40 p.m.

Deputies discovered one person shot in the head and called for an ambulance. Once it was clear to the people who were with the victim that the ambulance was going to be a while, they decided to take the person to the hospital in their own car, with a deputy escorting.

The man who was shot identified the shooter but later, investigators determined that person wasn’t involved.

One vehicle was towed from the scene of the shooting.

The victim was airlifted from Baptist Leake Hospital. Meanwhile a crowd that had gathered at the hospital left following the victim being airlifted.
