As Mississippians head to the polls for the Municipal General Election on Tuesday, June 3, the state’s voter ID laws will be in effect, requiring all in-person voters to present a valid photo ID.
The voter ID requirement applies to all elections, including municipal voting at polling places or in-person absentee voting.
Acceptable forms of photo ID include a Mississippi driver’s license, a U.S. passport, a military ID, a student ID from an accredited Mississippi college or university, or a Mississippi Voter Identification Card, which is available free at for those without other valid IDs.
Expired IDs are acceptable if they are no more than 10 years old. Voters using the state’s Mobile ID app can also present a digital Mississippi driver’s license or state-issued ID on their smartphone.
If a voter forgets their ID, they can cast an affidavit ballot, but they must present an acceptable photo ID to the municipal clerk’s office within five business days after Election Day for the vote to count.
