HEAT ADVISORY shown in orange on map above
We haven’t many stretches of normal summertime weather lately. But the relentless heat we’ve endured for weeks will be easing up starting Monday. Holmes County will be back under a heat advisory today with the heat index forecast to reach 105 in Durant. The high in Carthage today is expected to be in the upper 90s with mid 90s forecast in Kosciusko and Philadelphia. But Monday’s highs will drop into the lower 90s, close to normal, areawide. Temperatures could rebound slightly on Tuesday but still fall short of the extreme heat we’ve been seeing with highs the rest of the week not forecast to go above the mid 90s.
Expect a brief break in the stormy weather. Today’s severe weather risk should be confined to south Mississippi, Monday’s storms are forecast along and south of I-20 while part of the local area could see the threat of damaging winds on Tuesday.
