(The graphic below shows the earliest expected onset of the winter storm)

The National Weather Service is now confident that much of Mississippi will be hit by a winter storm this weekend. And the local area is expected to see “significant” impacts from the wintry precipitation, which could take the form of freezing rain, sleet and snow. It could begin late Friday night continuing through Sunday.
At this point, NWS projections suggest that both the Kosciusko and Philadelphia areas have a 58 per cent chance of getting more than a quarter-inch of ice accumulation with Kosciusko having a 41 per cent chance of getting more than a half-inch of ice. Kosy is given a 28 per cent chance of seeing more than an inch of snow and a 22 per cent chance of more than two inches.
Extremely cold temperatures will be in place this weekend and some areas may stay below freezing continuously from Friday night through Sunday night. The coldest readings are forecast for Sunday night– 10 degrees in Kosciusko and Durant, 10 to 15 in Carthage and 15 in Philadelphia.

The above graphic forecasts the likelihood of moderate impacts on daily life from the winter storm, including hazardous driving conditions and power outages.
