(Tornado watch shown in yellow on map above, severe thunderstorm watch in pink)
There’s now a tornado watch in effect until 3 am Sunday for portions of this area including Attala, Leake, Holmes, Carroll, Montgomery and Choctaw counties. A Level-2 “slight” risk of severe storms covers most of Mississippi including all of the local area. The National Weather Service says damaging winds up to 60 mph and a few brief tornadoes will be possible late tonight and early Sunday in this part of the state as a cold front moves through. One to two inches of rain could fall. The colder air behind the front will knock temperatures down into the low 40s Sunday night.
