Leake County Faces a Day of Crashes, Fires, and Gunfire

Leake County saw a string of incidents on Sunday, beginning with an early morning crash on Highway 35 South near the Scott County line. Deputies were alerted to the scene around 1:30 a.m. by an iPhone crash alert. No injuries were reported.

Later in the morning, Marydell Volunteer firefighters responded to a grass fire on Highway 25 North near Mageetown Road. The fire was promptly extinguished.

A crash on Highway 35 North near Waggoner Road around 8 p.m. sent several individuals to the hospital, though the extent of their injuries remains unclear.

Shortly before 9 p.m., a vehicle collided with a deer on Highway 25 North near Midway Road. There were no injuries reported in this incident.

Multiple callers reported gunfire in Carthage, specifically in and around Cook Street, just after 9 p.m. Later that evening, a resident from Cook Street contacted the Carthage Police Department, reporting that their vehicle had been shot.
